It can be a stressful time when you try to organize the clutter in your smaller home, but underbed storage will be very helpful. If you don't have a lot of closet space, you might otherwise have to leave things stored out in the open, or you might end up filling up the garage, and having to park your cars outside. Whether you need to store shoes, clothing or other items, you will want to organize them properly.
Make all your unused space under the bed work for you. The different options available in storing underbed are limited only by the size of your bed and the size of your budget. The simplest way to store items under your bed is to use cardboard boxes. These work if you don't have other options available, but items stored in cardboard may gather dust, and you can't see what's in each box.
You can use more expensive archival boxes. These are treated so that your things won't get dusty. You can also use storage bags under your bed. They are available in plastic, or half-plastic and half canvas, which makes them a little sturdier. Using storage bags allows you to see what you have in each bag. You can use vacuum storage bags, too. These are compressed with a vacuum cleaner, to allow even more space under your bed.
Storing bedding in vacuum bags is an excellent way to keep it close at hand without filling up your closets. Bags may not be as useful if you have pets. Cats might scratch the bags and puncture them, which will obviously cause them to lose their airtight qualities.
Underbed storage in plastic boxes will give you room for seasonal decorations, shoes and clothing. You can use bed risers that will make the bed higher, and then use containers that are taller, to store more things. You can also see what you're storing in each box when you use plastic containers. Plastic boxes may even come with wheels, so they are easier to move. This will make it easier to vacuum or mop under the bed, to keep the dust bunnies at bay.
You can purchase drawers that are made to fit under your bed. They come in wicker, plastic and wood. These drawers do tend to be shallow, and you may want deeper drawers. You can build your own drawers if you want them in a size that is not stocked by home improvement stores. Alternately, you can buy a bed that has its own storage built in. You can choose from many different materials and finishes when you are shopping for a bed that has storage space built in. There is one drawback to purchasing a bed that has built in storage. It can be an expensive proposition, and thus may be more than you wanted to spend for a storage solution. Whichever way you eventually may decide to go, one of these types of underbed storage will work well to keep your belongings out from underfoot, and stowed safely away.
